A Psalm…for One Nation Under God.

God bless and protect our soldiers!

As the mother of a young man serving our country…and as one of the many thousands of parents who feels the pangs of uncertainty about the safety of our military children now serving overseas, I find a great deal of comfort in this particular Psalm. As I continue to mature spiritually I find myself turning more and more to the delights, truths, and unwavering faith found only in the Word of God. I never fail to get excited as I continuously discover the guidance and truth of God’s Word. And, today, I find that I have been moved to share my excitement with those who are willing to listen. I do so with great eagerness and with the knowledge that this is exactly what I am called to do.

I quote…Psalms 91…

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.
Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shall thou trust; His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou has made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in theirs, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Because he hath set his love upon me, there will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.”

I believe in enlightenment and as I consumed this Prayer, I was truly overwhelmed by it’s message….not just to me but to all of us who are faithful to Him. He wants us ask Him for His divine intervention…not just for our warriors’ safety and deliverance from harm as they serve to protect us from our enemies, but for our Nation blessed by God. Our enemies in this world are the “adders, the lions, the dragons, the pestilence and the fowler”…comprised of enemy nations, organizations, and even some individuals among us that choose to hate us…who want to destroy us…whose radical philosophies are to deliver chaos among us.

The gift of discernment allows us to clearly see those enemies, including those who tread upon the very soil of our Nation. Such people will go to any measure to use our own laws and values in convoluted ways in order to inflict themselves upon us. We cannot forget who we are…that we are a Nation which was created under God…and because of His blessing us with the spirit of true righteousness…we respectfully tolerate them, even pray for them, but we are not to embrace them. For when we begin to embrace them, accept their philosophies, their beliefs, etc., then we are inviting trouble.

Therefore, as a Nation under God, we should never distance ourselves from that which is the Truth….a Nation blessed as One Nation Under God, albeit “…under the Shadow of the Almighty.” It’s true, that God does give us all free will… I believe He does not want us to come to know Him by force…but, rather by choice…and that is what America is all about….freedom of choice. And, yes, they are welcome to believe what they choose, but, we must set limits and stand firmly by those limitations. His Word also teaches us that as well.

As I see it, we are in the midst of spiritual warfare…and that our Nation is being challenged. In order to triumph, we must call upon Him in prayer, and stand united in His name against those who would destroy us. We must be able to discern…and not be afraid to say enough is enough. We must do those things that may not be “politically correct”, but what is “spiritually correct.”

I pray this Psalm for my son as I see him as not just a warrior for our country, but a guardian for God’s righteousness, and stand beside him as a guardian for this Nation…for the Legacy of what our founding fathers who walked in the light of God designed for us. It’s a Legacy we must guard and with God at the helm. My son is fighting by sword for his Legacy, his birthright, and the protection of his own precious wife and child. I choose to fight this battle with him, alongside him in Spirit and…maybe not with sword, but, yet here at home through the power of the pen….and most assuredly… Prayer.

  1. Ms. Chris says:

    No matter how many times I hear this scripture it touches my soul. My son is l deployed as well and this scripture blesses me and gives me strength. I have a heart that is split as one side wants my son home with his family and the other beats proudly knowing he is serving this country that we love so much. I wonder sometimes what our country will look like to my grandchildren! If we glance at a Rockwell painting it depicts a true time and familiar history in this nation. What would a modern day painting look like now, and what would it depict as my grandchildren stare at it 40 years from now?

    Unfortunately, the liberals will think you are talking about Obama. (And no, Obama is not the Antichrist. The Antichrist believes in God)

  3. Ann Grimes says:

    How sad and paranoid it would be of them!. It’s more about God and His promises of protection and deliverance who stand for Him…but, if they (Liberals) wish to categorize Obama as part of the pestilence, then that is their choosing…..
