No candidate benefitted from Tea Party support in 2010 than Marco Rubio. He was supposed to lose badly to Charley Crist. The Tea Party rallied around him as a solid conservative. And like Brute, he turned on his best friend, the Tea Party, in order to not only endorse a liberal but to openly attack Newt Gingrich.
The really sad part is he did it for political reasons. Like Christy before him, he is making his bid for the vice presidency. Newt has his sights on Condi Rice, I believe, and Rubio saw Romney as his ticket to the top. It’s understandable that the establishment is against Newt, fearing they will lose power, but it is upsetting when someone you picked up and carried across the finish line is the culprit.
As Shakespeare phrased Brutus’ betrayal “And this, the most unkindest cut of all.”
