Town Hall Meetings

Since information and education are two of our key purposes, The Charleston Tea Party will encourage —- and where possible sponsor —- public (Town Hall) forums featuring elected officials and candidates (or people who may be contemplating candidacy) that profess to be conservatives. The officials and candidates invited to these meetings may hold or seek office in local, state, or national governments. We’re offering a service we think is of value to the citizen voters of the low country, and we hope thousands throughout the year will take advantage of the opportunities offered!

Sometimes these Town Halls will feature one individual (as in recent events with former US Sen. Rick Santorum or SC Sen. Glenn McConnell), or several candidates in a debate format, as was recently done for the Charleston County Council District 1 race.

By sponsoring and/or promoting these events, or by podcasting an interview with any such official or candidate, the Charleston Tea Party is NOT endorsing any person, nor favoring one over another.

We urge all citizens to actively learn who their officials and candidates are and what they genuinely believe, and become personally involved and committed in the political process. This is the only way we stand any chance at renewing the spirit of America and our free republic. If we sit quietly on the side lines, we may lose what we have!

We also encourage and invite citizens who attended any Town Hall Meetings to become “Citizen Reporters” and share the information with the rest of the community by:

a) Posting an article here sharing your opinion of how the meeting went, what you learned that you didn’t know before, and how you personally feel about the official or candidate now that you saw and listened to him/her in a generally unscripted setting. In your opinion, is the candidate credible? Does he or she really exemplify conservative principles and values, and what are some examples of this you can share. Did attending the event cause you to change, or strengthen, your preconceptions?

b) If you’d prefer not to write an original article but would like to comment on what another person wrote about the event, please do so with a mind toward the points made above.

c) If you would simply like to send an email about the meeting please send your commentary to Chris@charlestonteaparty.org and include the place, time and speakers at the meeting as well as any other information you feel pertinent and the article will be published for you.

In the future, all Town Hall announcements and articles will eventually reside under the TOWN HALL tab in addition to the site Archives.

Thanks in advance to all who take the time to attend, and especially to those willing to report on, these important educational forums!
