Cilantro is a condiment often used in the preparation of several recipes. Thanks to the freezing technique, it is now possible to keep it for a long time. For better conservation of this one, it is necessary to prepare cubes of coriander ice cubes. These coriander ice cubes are then packaged and can be frozen for quite a long time. To successfully freeze cilantro, special attention must be paid to its preparation.
The first step in freezing cilantro is preparing the cilantro ice cubes. To start with, you have to use a fresh bunch of cilantro with tender and very green leaves and wash it with cool water to remove all impurities. Then wring out the leaves and dry them. You can optionally use a salad spinner or place the leaves on a baking sheet, lining them up one by one. Once they are dry, finely chop the cilantro leaves with a sharp knife or with a mini chopper.
Once the coriander leaves are well chopped, they must immediately be frozen. In fact, the coriander should not be allowed to stand too long to prevent it from rotting. For freezing, take an ice cube tray and pour a teaspoon of chopped coriander into each cube. Finally, sprinkle each cube with a tablespoon of freshwater. Immediately place the ice cubes in the freezer. As for the ideal temperature for freezing cilantro, it is between -18 ° C and -25 ° C. To preserve food hygiene, the shelf life of cilantro should not exceed 8 months.
After at least 8 hours in the freezer, take out the small cubes and unmold them. For the freezing of cilantro to be successful, the packaging is important to prevent the cilantro ice cubes from losing their flavor. So, once they are unmolded, it is best to store them in airtight freezer bags. Before filling these freezer bags, care must be taken to expel the air inside. Once the cilantro ice cubes are in the freezer bag, it should be closed right away to prevent the remaining free space from filling up with air.
The conservation of coriander is very advantageous because it does not require any complex preparation. When it comes to thawing cilantro ice cubes, there is no step to follow. Indeed, it is enough to take the number of ice cubes necessary and to plunge them directly in preparation.
Frozen cilantro is to be used as a condiment in dishes to enhance their flavor. It flavors fish, poultry, soups, stews, fresh and fried vegetables, tomato-based sauces and yogurt. It is strongly recommended not to use coriander ice cubes as a decoration.
