Most modern buildings will have some element of concrete in their construction. Whilst we have moved away from the days of the 1950s and 60s, when the “brutalist” movement was in full swing. This was where lots of new and exciting building projects were made using concrete as the primary material. There is less call for that now but companies like Concrete Cheltenham Monster Mix are still very busy supplying the material to the industry. Why is there still a huge demand for concrete?
Simply put, concrete is excellent as a foundation. Building directly onto the soil and surface, we have discovered, is not a good idea. It means the building could be liable to subsidence and rising damp. With a concrete foundation, you can be sure that when the bricks and mortar are being laid there is a good strong solid base. It’s now the standard practice for all new buildings to have a concrete foundation, in fact there is legislation from the Health and Safety executive to enforce it.
The benefits of using concrete are clear. It is the best material by far to have when looking to reinforce and support a building’s construction. Its malleability means it can be poured into any shape you can create. When mixed correctly it can set extremely quickly giving the builders the reassurance that they can get onto the rest of the build as soon as possible.
