Charleston
Tea Party
In 1774, the South Carolina Gazette reports on the so-called Charleston Tea Party. You’ve heard of the Boston Tea Party, of course. Charleston had one, too!

Do You Know!

Charleston’s first "tea party" took place on December 3, 1773, thirteen days before the more famous one in Boston. Charlestonians called a meeting to decide their course of action, and all present agreed not to purchase tea. Instead of dumping it into the harbor, they unloaded the tea and stored it in the Exchange building. Not every colonist accepted this agreement, particularly many merchants, but the colonists now had an established system for dealing with future problems. They established the General Committee to enforce nonimportation agreements and resolutions in the colony. In July 1774 a ship tried to bring tea into Charleston with similar results.

Penicillins first tentative steps.
The story of the development of Penicillin is one of the most profound and interesting. It begins with a chance discovery by Sir Alexander Fleming and ends with the work of Norman Heatley and Dr A J Moyer to develop and purify it so that it is safe for human use. In between is the tireless work and development of the notable Howard Chain and Ernst Florey who were determined to find answers when Fleming had completely given up.
There was no time to conduct Paid Clinical Trials such as the ones that you can opt for at https://www.trials4us.co.uk/. The need to combat the streptococcus bacteria was of paramount importance. Fleming, having served in the First World War had seen too many men and women die from complications from minor wounds. The case of Albert Alexander was a prime example. He was a police officer and he had simply scraped himself on a rose thorn bush. Septicemia had set in and he was terminal.
With Penicillin in development it was showing positive signs in mice at combating the bacteria versus the mice that had not received any treatment. Heatley was worried about the large dose but the patient was fine as he had nothing to lose. Initially the drug had the bacteria on the run but tragically they could not produce enough and Alexander succumbed. However his sacrifice for the trail showed that it worked. The team then concentrated on saving sick children as the dosage needed was a lot smaller and within production limits.
Six surface treatments for metal
A surface treatment is often employed to do one of two things to a metal part: improve the appearance of the metal or provide protection against corrosion. Engineers will often specify the precise surface treatment that is necessary to provide the finish required by the part.
Additionally, some of the commonly used surface treatments provide enhanced electrical or mechanical properties that develop and enhance the functionality of the component.
Experts such as https://www.poeton.co.uk/standard-treatments/ can provide more information about basic treatments.
1. Electroplating
Electroplating takes place when the part to be plated is submerged within a solution, which then has an electrical current passed through. Metals used for electroplating include chromium, cadmium, copper and gold. Most base metals that can conduct electricity can be plated in this manner. It is expected that growth in the tech industry will increase the penetration of electroplating over the next decade.
2. Electroless plating
Items coated using electroless plating are treated in much the same way as those that are electroplated; however, this process does not use electricity. The plating is achieved by including a reduction agent in the plating solution. Electroless plating is often used if a uniform thickness of plating is desired, which does not often happen with electroplating.
3. Chemical treatment
When chemically treating metals, a thin layer of sulfide and oxide is created by way of a chemical reaction. This treatment is often used to colour metal, to prime surfaces that are to be painted and to provide protection against corrosion.
4. Anodic oxidation
Anodic oxidation is often used for lighter metals, such as titanium and aluminium. The oxide films are created with electrolysis, with the porous nature of the oxide films making them ideal for colouring or dyeing parts. Anodisation helps to prevent corrosion on parts that are made from aluminium, whilst thicker coats can be utilised if wear resistance is desired.
5. Hot dipping
Hot dipping is a surface treatment in which the part is submerged into dissolved lead, zinc, tin, iron or solder to produce a metallic film on the surface. This is generally used to provide corrosion resistance for parts that will be used in extreme environments, such as for guard rails on roads.
6. Vacuum plating
There are many methods for surface plating metals that use a vacuum, including vacuum vapour deposition, sputtering, ion nitriding, ion plating and ion implantation. These ionised oxides, nitrides and metals are made in a controlled environment. Following this, the part to be treated is transferred to the vacuum chamber, with the treatment materials deposited very accurately onto the surface. Treatments such as titanium nitride are used to extend the life of carbide and high steel metal cutting tools, for example.
There are plenty of other treatments available for metal parts that increase the wear resistance, corrosion resistance or solderability of these substances. On the other hand, some are mostly decorative, changing the appearance or colour of the parts treated.
How our daily habits can affect our drains
How often do you pour fat down your drains or allow the hair that has built up in your shower flow down the plug? Probably more often that you realise and it is these daily habits that can have a detrimental effect on our drains. It can be difficult to see what is causing your blockage which is where CCTV Drainage Surveys from companies like https://www.wilkinson-env.co.uk/cctv-drain-surveys-gloucester/ can help you.
![](https://charlestonteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/How-our-daily-habits-can-affect-our-drains.png)
Here are some of the ways that our drains can become damaged by our daily habits.
Channels From Hair Clogged
One of the most common problems is a build-up of hair that begins to obstruct your drainage. This is always a fairly simple job to get rid of hair, but it can cause several problems along the drain if not immediately removed. One of the causes of blocked rivers is hair loss from the body when bathing or when washing in the sink and in the toilet.
![](https://charlestonteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/How-our-daily-habits-can-affect-our-drains2.png)
Channels from Fat Blocked
Fat can collect in the kitchen sink over time, much like hair in the shower. This fatty material is a very common cause of ducts and pipes that are blocked and can be a cleaning nuisance. Any fat washed into the sink will bind to the inside of the pipe and gradually collect to the point that it is difficult for the liquid to move. It is important to note that, as you would assume, this oil does not exit the pipe as quickly.
Drains from Toiletries Clogged
As more and more individuals are accustomed to tossing toiletries into the drain, our pipes and sewers have a greater problem. Baby diapers and wipes, after being flushed down the toilet, are two common issues that are known to obstruct waterways. These materials are submerged in water, absorbing moisture and spreading, blocking access to drains and pipes easily.
What do you know about trousers protection?
The most important part of a men’s wardrobe is his trousers. After all they protect those parts that are considered essential. You do need to have something in place that is suitable and robust. In the past there was but one thing that all men required to ensure their manhood was protected, they went out and got a codpiece. It’s not a regular piece of modern clothing, the Tommy Bowe Menswear range that you can buy from EJ Menswear doesn’t look like it has an option for one anytime soon. The only men that wear them with any regularity are Cricket players, for obvious reasons and Medieval reenactors. Where did we get the idea to wear the from?
![](https://charlestonteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/What-do-you-know-about-trousers-protection.png)
They start off as a prominent piece of protective armour on plate mail. Then, in 16th century Europe, masculinity was hyper exaggerated, along with conceptions of chivalry, honour and romance. For the intention of proving masculinity in the most transparent of ways, codpieces were quickly hijacked. The most intricate models were singularly showy, and portraits suggest that the codpiece achieved epic proportions in the mid-16th century. No cost was spared: codpieces were made, bejewelled or embroidered in luxurious silk velvet. They were also required by young boys to wear them.
![](https://charlestonteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/What-do-you-know-about-trousers-protection2.png)
Costume scholars have long suggested that, as a result of the vogue for femininity that swept through the French and English courts, the codpiece fell from fashion. A change of emphasis to the face and hips was heralded by intricate ruffs and ballooning breeches as worn by Lord Percy Percy in Blackadder II.
How Do Radiators Work?
How radiators work is an interesting heating technology that has been around for more than a hundred years, but the basics of how they work are relatively simple. The basic working principle is that a series of tubes filled with pressurized hot water and a series of tubes connected to a thermostat, are used to create the temperature change that we experience through our radiators. These tubes and hot water have to be heated in the right way so that they do not get too hot and cause a problem; this is where the various kinds of radiators come in.
![](https://charlestonteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/How-Do-Radiators-Work-1024x919.jpg)
The first type of radiator, which is the one that most people have in their home, is a convector radiator. These types of radiators work by using a series of thin cones which are filled with pressurized hot water and they force the water into a larger space, where it becomes hot enough to dissipate through any gaps or crevices that may be present. These are the easiest kind of radiator to work with and the most common ones still used for heating systems today. ![](https://charlestonteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/How-Do-Radiators-Work2-1024x680.jpg)
The second type of radiator is the gas-filled version. This type of radiator works by using a series of cylinders that are full of pressurized gas and the heat from this gas is used to heat the water. If you use such a system in your home, you will probably need to have a supplementary heating system connected to the hot water tank to ensure that the water gets to all the rooms of your house.
Considerations for Improving the Exterior of Your Home
There are a variety of considerations you will want to make when planning projects around your home. These ideas can range anywhere from adding a deck with the help of great deck builders, a porch, or a garden area, to making improvements to your home’s exterior, such as a new door, a new window, or even a driveway. Regardless of what project you are planning on doing, it is important to consider the different factors that will affect the project’s success.
![](https://charlestonteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Considerations-for-Improving-the-Exterior-of-Your-Home.jpg)
First, you will want to consider the specific projects you have in mind. In order to properly assess the amount of work involved with a project, you should contact a professional home improvement company, who can evaluate your current exterior and tell you whether or not it is a good idea. It is also important to consider the type of materials you plan on using for the project. While wood and stone are typically the most popular materials used for home improvement projects, there are other materials that may be suitable for your home. Second, when it comes to improvement projects, it is important to consider the design and appearance of the home, and how the changes will affect the overall appearance. Many homeowners often try to add decorations and items to their home, only to find that they are not pleasing to the eye. For this reason, it is crucial to think carefully about the addition you are planning on making, and whether or not you would be happy with the results. There are some homeowners who feel uncomfortable adding large additions to their homes, so it is important to make sure that the exterior remodeling project that you are considering will not create a safety or aesthetics problem.
The Importance of Keeping a Clean Garden
Keeping a clean and tidy garden is one of the most important things you can do for your property. If we were to analyze the amount of bacteria and dirt that accumulate in our gardens, garages and around our homes. The amount of effort required to keep it clean can be time-consuming. In fact, an unkempt garden reflects badly on the property’s appearance and would lead us to believe that we also have no time for personal hygiene. Hence, it is very important that we all keep our surroundings neat and hygienic. This will not only ensure that our properties look good but will also help us to stay away from pest problems and diseases that might be spread through dirt and bacteria.
When we think about keeping a garden, the first thing that comes to mind is usually a lawn. However, keeping a beautiful and healthy garden is just as important as having a great lawn. We should not think that a beautiful garden is just an absence of dirt. There are many other things we need to pay attention to such as making sure that we keep the grass nourished and in shape and that we weed regularly, nourish the soil and keep trees healthy. For a Tree Surgeon Poole, visit https://kieranboylandtreeservices.com/
As far as plants are concerned, watering them is also very important. We should try and water them once every two days as this will help them to grow well. One more thing that we should keep in mind while tending to our garden is that we should keep it free from weeds and pests such as bugs. If there are any weeds in the garden, we should remove them by either cutting them off with blades or digging them up with spades so that they do not come back later on.
When is it time to upgrade my lighting?
The majority of homes and businesses are still using outdated lighting systems. The trouble with this is that outdated lights can cost heavily in energy usage whilst providing poor lighting. Here are some signs that it might be time for an upgrade:
High energy use
Are you noticing that energy consumption and bills are increasing? If you’re still using fluorescent lights, it might shock you to learn that these can be 70% less efficient than modern LED lighting. Who wants to be using 70% more energy than they must, just in lighting their home or facility?
Maintenance
As well as increased energy consumption, outdated lighting sources, such as fluorescent require more in terms of maintenance. One LED bulb will last the equivalent of 5 fluorescent ones! If you own a large home or business, the cost of these lighting as well as maintenance and installation could mean it’s time to upgrade to something more efficient. Consider upgrading your Ceiling Roses as well at a site like Creative Cables
Perishing fittings
If your fixtures are looking dirty, tired, out of fashion or even damaged, then it’s definitely time to upgrade. An old and/or damaged fixture can become a real eyesore and have a negative impact on the ambience and how others view the property.
Bad quality light
Fluorescent bulbs burn out much faster than LED ones and until they burn out, their light emitting qualities fade rapidly too. If your room is dull, full of shadows or just not great for visibility, then it really is time to switch to a new system for your lighting needs.
How to Avoid Bloating
If you want to know how to avoid bloating, then it’s time that you give the foods you eat more attention than the ones that you do eat. In other words, what you eat is just as important as what you do. The problem is that you cannot just say that you are going to stop eating spicy foods because you have a bloating problem. It may be true, but this does not mean that you will no longer have that problem. On the contrary, something else could set it off and you’ll feel like you’ll be stuck with it forever.
![](https://charlestonteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/How-to-Avoid-Bloating.jpg)
So, if you want to know how to avoid bloating, then you need to pay more attention to the things that you consume and it;s often wise to keep a food journal. The thing is, you need to have good bacteria in your digestive system in order for you not to suffer from digestive problems. This is because when the good bacteria in your digestive system are not present, it will only lead to more bloating problems. It will only get worse when you eat spicy foods again, for example. Find out about Anti bloating tea at https://www.vivolife.co.uk/blogs/news/5-herbal-teas-to-beat-the-bloat-and-improve-digestion
![](https://charlestonteaparty.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/How-to-Avoid-Bloating2.jpg)
However, it is possible for you to overcome this problem when you start eating more foods that contain the good bacteria. One example of this is yogurt. Yogurt is known to have good bacteria in it and therefore, it can help you not be bloated after eating.
WHAT DO WORMS EAT?
The term “worms” includes different types of animals that have a single common characteristic, the elongated shape of their body, yet they are not related to each other. Within the worms, we have three groups, the Flatworms (flatworms), the nematodes (cylindrical worms), and the Annelids (ringed worms.
